Brand New Day stands for the work of a group (Indian, Canadian, German
…) of architects and designers, whose projects aim to cover the full range
of interior design; stage, exhibition and installation design; architecture;
architectural modeling; landscape design and large scale planning from
plazas, squares (or even circles) to cities.

Multi-disciplinary
The
members of Brand New Day have been working together since 1997, and we
continue into the twenty-first century with a firm commitment to beauty
- a beauty of thought, a beauty of line and a beauty encapsulated in matter.
We are a multi-disciplinary group, attempting to weave diverse strands
of inspiration into a richly textured fabric of creativity.
Process of learning
Our
work is a process of learning through the continued analysis of our
realizations, in which spontaneity and intuition merge with consciousness.
Realizations which strive to reveal a deep understanding and a profound
knowledge of the relationship between a sense of order and the transcendent
dimension of dream. The slow unfolding of a conscience that allows complete
expression, real freedom and the fulfillment of a collective being attempting
to overcome the limitations of the ego.
This we strive to achieve through the
-
activity of tuning
- process of refinement
- search for equilibrium
- act of investigation leading to understanding
- correspondence between 'word', 'image' and 'thought'
Less selective, more probing
Those
who are seized by the passion for truth will learn to find a
beauty in the most ordinary of objects. We need to become less selective
and more probing. We should seek an absolute detachment, nurture a dedication
to understanding the intrinsic character and have respect for the individuality
underlying even the things which seem to create no feeling within us at
first.
The role of art
Through
a continual process of innovation, experimentation and
refinement we aim to consistently challenge, question and shake the
ever-present status quo. Auroville is to be the bedrock of a new
evolutionary movement, and we firmly believe that it can be the role of
art in its multiplicity of expression to cajole, to circumvent and to
tease our existing patterns of being in unexpected directions.
'Vision factory'
We
see ourselves as nomads - gypsies of creation - adapting each new
space into a 'vision factory' which houses the crucible in which our
ideas are forged - maintaining our barrage of thought, word and deed on
an unsuspecting world. Our present vision factory is located between Pondicherry,
the Bay of Bengal and Auroville on the Auroville Main Road (Phone: 0413-2622
023). Currently we are 12 people working in the office, Aurovillians,
people from the neighboring villages as well as students from India and
abroad. Since one year we started to introduce computers into our work,
discovering with amazement and joy the almost unlimited possibilities
this electronic tool offers. Still, model making, sketches and on-site
decisions occupy a large space in the design process.
Everyone is more than welcome to drop in at any time and see what is afoot,
or else see a small selection of our work in the gallery section of this
page.
We hope that its selection of our projects will speak
for itself, and that it may offer an intimate glimpse into the breadth
and depth of our oeuvre.
The Grand Egyptian Museum International Architecture Competition
- quoted from AVNews of February 15th, 03
-

After completing the First Phase of an architectural
competition to design a new museum in direct neighborhood to the
Pyramids and to house amongst other priceless antiquities, the entire
Tutankhamon collection, the jury received a total of 1500 entries
from architectural teams from all over the world. The
site, the grandeur of the exhibits and the vision of the Egyptian
organisers with the support of the United Nations make this competition
one of the most important of the last decades and the near future.
Due to the outstanding quality of the received
conceptual works the international jury (headed by Peter Cook and
Gae Aulenti) and the UIA (International Union of Architects, Paris)
advised the organisers to publish a selection of the most significant
works as they reflect the positions and visions of modern, global
architecture.
We - the Team of Brand New Day architecture
& design - would proudly like to inform the community of Auroville
that our proposal has been selected by the competition committee
to be part in this publication.
With Love. Brand New Day Team
