Vision of India

S. Vahula

Vahula arrived in India by boat from Sri Lanka in 1987 at the age of 17. In 1990 he discovered Auroville where he has been teaching in New Creation School. At the same time he started  painting, drawing and sketching from his small room in Fraternity. His work covered  landscapes, still-lives and portraits.

These are pictures of the daily life of people at work, in the fields, at worship, at rest.

Some of Vahula's landscapes are painted on the spot, others at home. He has traveled through south India capturing the colours and structures of Chidambaram, Mammalapuram through scenes of fishing villages and the sea. His most recent work is in oil pastels and water colors. In February 2001 he exhibited in the Auroville Visitors Centre.
