Construction
The first phase of the Savitri
Bhavan complex was inaugurated on August 8, 1999 by Dr.
Nirodbaran, Sri Aurobindo's scribe for Savitri. This first
building provides a multi-purpose hall, office space, a small
reading room, and secure storage for the valuable equipment
and materials that have been donated to the Bhavan. It is
providing a base for the growing programme of activities until
it is possible to complete the final complex.

The full complex is planned to
provide:
-
An art-gallery to house all the two
sets of paintings prepared by Huta according to the
Mother's instructions and guidance: Meditations on Savitri
(468 paintings) and About Savitri (116 paintings); as well
as reproductions of the Mother's own Savitri drawings
-
A library where all editions of
Savitri would be available, in English as well as
translations into other languages, along with
commentaries, studies and background materials, in book
and non-book form, with audio-visual and multimedia
facilities
-
A hall for group-study, discussions,
seminars, satsang, talks and discourses on Savitri and
related topics by well-qualified scholars and speakers
-
Facilities for innovative research,
with classrooms and study space for education leading to
the inner opening through Savitri
-
