International Conference

February 2002 will see an International Conference on 'City Networking for a Sustainable Future and Human Unity take place in Auroville from 25th to 28th February 2002. The conference is the major event in the project on 'City Networking for Sustainable Development and Human Unity' under the Asia Urbs programme co-financed by the European Union. The township of Auroville is hosting this conference in partnership with the Cities of Paris and Venice, and the Province of Treviso in Italy.

Aim of conference

The aim of the conference is to share the Asia Urbs experience with other Indian cities so as to familiarise these with the opportunities provided by the Asia Urbs programme. The project enables networking between European and Indian cities through the sharing of experiences and best practices in sustainable urban management.

In this context over 60 representatives of Indian, European and South-East Asian cities will meet to facilitate cooperation, create interactions for exploring the theme of urban development & networking in the context of a sustainable future leading to cultural and human integration.

The Asia Urbs programme requires that the Indian cities interested to develop certain projects should have at least two European cities as partners to be involved in the implementation of those projects. To facilitate this, the conference will serve as a platform for representatives of the cities to meet and get acquainted with each other, so that new and productive partnerships can be formed..
