Ian, a youthful visitor from U.K., regularly
coming to Auroville and staying and helping out for some time, gives
here his impression of what Auroville is about.
A windpump with a view
The idea that every single person in the world
is unique and has something to offer is one of the keystones to the
energy of Auroville.
Sitting high up in the sky, overlooking the
endless sea of trees that shade Auroville from the south Indian
sunshine.
Feeling the breeze that comes in fresh and cool
from the nearby
Coromandel Coast.
It feels so peaceful to see the textures of the
green canopy gently dance in the breath of the wind while the blue sky
remains still and quiet.
Here and there the spinning blades of a windpump
can be seen.
A few white roofs hinting of Auroville's diverse architecture.
And reflecting the sun, shining in gold, is the
crown of the
Matrimandir, the heart and soul of the community, a chamber of white
energy, a place to find clarity and expand one's inner space.
Below on the maze of red earth roads and tracks,
thousands of people go about their business: making, doing, designing,
building, ploughing, singing, dancing, stretching, carving... So many
things they do.
Coming from all around the world, they become part
of the melting pot, living ingredients in an experimental recipe to
realise unity; the harmony where the mind, body and spirit of each
person, whatever their age or background, can find its place in the
whole.
In all the fields of expression, from pottery to
politics, horses to
health care, electric guitars to education, there is the opportunity to
diversify one's experiences in this living, ever changing University of
Life.
The idea that every single person in the world is
unique and has
something to offer is one of the keystones to the energy of Auroville.
And so it can happen that a visitor comes, a deep connection emerges
inside, and like synchronicity, events unfold and they find themselves
doing a certain activity (possibly un-thought of before) that brings out
their latent qualities and creativity, deepening their sense of purpose
and understanding of themselves.
This is an important aspect of Auroville, because
its aim is not
primarily to build a town or city. Its aim is to allow people to live
more and more in their intuition, developing contact with their inner
teacher to help them find and express their truth, their own way of
being. While at the same time, widening their intuition to fully
understand and appreciate the diversity of truths represented in others.
No easy thing, but it has been said that to help
the world move out of its blindness, there need to be more and more
groups and communities in the world that are striving and becoming
closer to realising unity and bringing that broadened, deeper
understanding into every detail of human life.
So the everyday pulse of activity here is like any
town in the world, the full spectrum from shallow to deep, course to
fine, but with its heart of purpose and tangible progress it is so much
more, and this makes all the difference.
