Transition School is a primary and middle school for the children of Auroville. Presently there are about 130 students ranging in age from 6-15 attending the school.
These students and the adults that work with them represent about 20 different nationalities. Since there are so many people of all these different cultures working together, it gives us the chance to try to understand different cultures and ethnic groups, and encourages a rich teaching and learning experience.
Here, at Transition, we try to establish an atmosphere of harmony and protected freedom which stresses human unity so that we can all progress together. At the same time we are always trying to develop and improve our program and teaching methods so that each individual has the possibility to realize his/her full potential. Each subject is seen as a tool for self-discovery as well as an aid to help the child to gain knowledge and to learn to express him/herself.There are presently eight groups at the school.

Subjects are presented to the students in different ways: project work, cooperative learning groups, individual research, and interdisciplinary and single subject work. Although the medium of instruction is English, French and Tamil are also studied by most of the students. We welcome you to our first attempt at web work and hope that you will learn a little bit about each group.
