Aqua Culture

A professional fisherman is called to harvest the pond, and the women integrally sell the fish in the village only.

The promotion of aquaculture was experimented in 1998 and has been carried out in 4 villages so far. Aquaculture rejuvenates the interest of the populations in the water bodies, alleviates poverty and improves the diets.

The first beneficiaries are the most deprived sections of the village: groups of scheduled caste women and unemployed youth are trained into fish rearing in the village ponds; the income from the fish sales is partly reinvested, shared among the participants, and shared with the locality.

The women groups collect the fingerlings from a fish farm to seed their pond.
These will be allowed to grow until the village pond almost dries up.
