The million dollar challenge began on the January 1st this year, it started as an idea that was spread by word of mouth between individuals of the community. It is as simple as it sounds, to raise a million dollars by August 15th to buy the land that is currently on offer to Auroville both with in the city area and with in the greenbelt.

Initially the target seems far away, near impossible, there is the feeling that we need outside help. However upon reflection it becomes more manageable when two points are realized. Firstly, that a million dollars is actually a thousand times a thousand, so we need to raise one thousand dollars in a thousand different ways. Secondly if all of us, that is each person with a heart connection to Auroville, can contribute one day a month for the six months to the challenge, then for sure we will be capable of achieving our target and we will have taken part in a wonderful collective work. This web page is dedicated to this challenge, it is a place where people can share ideas, ask for help in realizing their part of the challenge, or simply state their intention to join in and attempt to raise one of the thousand shares. The more we feel that the momentum is growing the more that we can feel the dream is happening.
