Floral elixirs

Quintessence is an undertaking in Auroville which produces floral elixirs according to the messages given by the Mother on the occult significance the flowers found in Auroville and its environment. The project entails activities in the fields of education, research and therapy and endeavours to create a natural product free of pollution, worked conscientiously in full utilisation of scientific and intuitive knowledge.

Reprogramming of the body's cells

Initiative taker for this is Aurovilian Arlette, who has been interested in self-healing for most of her life. After university studies, she became a podologue, a profession which regards chiropody as a first priority, followed by all that concerns rehabilitation of the body by way of postural reprogramming. This led to studies of reflexology and other alternative therapies. Presently, as a therapist, she mostly prescribes floral elixirs, after finding the 'conflict origin' in the patient's life through study of the family tree and the establishment of recurring patterns. She also gives training sessions to interested people. Since arriving in Auroville in 1994, Arlette and partner Jean-Jacques have developed, from their residence in the Prarthna settlement, a special field of work with floral elixirs in connection with the reprogramming of the body's cells. At the same time, connecting with the reality of the community, they have planned to become self-sufficient. They have also decided to enable Auroville's youth to discover themselves and have the possibility to become therapists.

Training sessions

A first training session of three years is already finished, with the students taking a final examination of theoretical and practical knowledge, obtaining a 'Certificate of Reflexology' as a result. Some of them have since started specialising in chiropody. Training in podology is not yet given, but could happen when a suitable infrastructure exists in Auroville. The first course was given in the Auroville Health Centre for the practical work, and in the Centre for Further Learning for theoretical matters. A second 3-year training session started in July 2000. The programme involves knowledge of the bases of the Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine - reflexology and prenatotherapy, alternative possibilities with polarities, color therapy, Ayurvedic massage, naturopathy - and also a wide opening through other sciences and practices as geo-biology, astrology, numerology, I Ching, T'ai Chi Chuan. The ultimate aim of the course is to cultivate therapists with a deep knowledge and intuition, while developing compassion and caring through body rehabilitation and mental harmonisation. Under this kind of care, the patient will be enabled to work with the therapist on his/her own healing process.

Quintessence laboratory

The Quintessence laboratory is working on Floral Elixirs firstly for a total purity of source water treated by the inverse osmosis process in order to obtain an absolutely neutral base of elixirs. The kirlian camera is the main tool for gauging development in the case of people using floral elixirs and receiving treatments. The floral elixirs cultivated and collected in the non-polluted area of Auroville are completed and safely manufactured in the laboratory. To date, Quintessence has produced a first set of 6 Floral elixirs called 'Crossing' which serves as a first base of communication and dialogue with the patient. Already at this early stage, it is interesting to perceive how a particular Floral Elixir works, on which different levels and what directions for further development emerge. A next set called 'Chakras' is in progress.

Health and Perfect Body Centre

In a near future, Quintessence is planning to re-group the various activities in a suitable location called 'Health and Perfect Body' where, through application of Fengshui and geo-biology elements a high level of energy and harmony will be established. This area will be a sanctuary with carefully chosen trees, bushes, and flowers. It will contain a Resource Centre with a guesthouse in an atmosphere of harmony, silence, peace and concentration. In this environment, patients and searchers will be able to experiment with floral elixirs and therapies provided by the Centre to go back to their root. The patients will choose themselves which flowers they feel attracted to, or not, thus establishing a base of dialogue guiding the therapy.
